11.15.2017, 11.22.2017 & 11.29.2017
Meeting of 11.15.2017:
24 members and guests Lacey Anderson, Katie Johnson, and Greg Schraufnagel attended the breakfast of November 15 and heard member Rob Edwards, Executive Director of the Lee Carlson Center in Fridley, describe the Center's school-based program, which has grown to provide mental-health services to five Anoka County school districts.
 
Prior to Edwards' presentation, the group had the pleasure of inducting three new members, Lacey Anderson, Katie Johnson, and Greg Schraufnagel. Each were presented with their membership certificate, badge, and pin by their assigned Rotary mentors. Senior active member Gordon Backlund provided a talk on Rotary international for the new members' benefit.
 
President Wally Wysopal presented checks to Patti Halvorson, for sponsorship of the Lee Carlson Center's Chili Cookoff on February 15, and to Peggy Flathmann, for the Fridley Schools Foundation's initial gala on January 25.
 
Announcements:
  • Mark Grotewold announced that the club's service event at Southern Anoka Community Assistance in Columbia Heights, and the membership indicated it preferred to assist with SACA's toy drive on Friday, Dec. 15.
  • Scott Lund announced that the Anoka County Historical Society would hold a dinner theater fundraiser on Thursday night, Dec. 14.
  • Youth Exchange Officer Kristen Stuenkel announced that exchange student Pascal Boehner would move to his second host family, Lorene and Greg Mueller, this weekend, and thanked member Zac Hoang for coordinating the move.
  • Lund issued a final reminder that the meeting of November 22 would be a "5:01" social at Sarna's Classic Grill in Columbia Heights.
11.22.2017 5:01 Meeting:
At Sarna's 20 members and friends gathered for a wonderful time at our 2nd 5:01. Special thanks to Josh Lund for sharing Timberwolves tickets for a raffle that collected $70 for Polio Plus. 
 
Meeting of 11.29.2017:
22 members heard speakers Gary Campbell of Anoka Rotary and Craig Leiser of Stillwater Rotary, representing The Rotary Foundation, provide information on the Foundation's history, purposes, and activities. Both are Past District Governors and chairs of the District 5960 Foundation Committee. Their coincided with presentation to Norma Jean Falink of her 6+ Paul Harris pin by President Wally Wysopal, recognizing her 7th year of contributing at least $1000 to the Foundation.

  • Volunteers are needed:
    • Bellringing for today November 29, December 6, and December 13 at Sam's Club in Fridley,
    • The club service activity at SACA on Dec. 15 from 8:00-noon,
    • The STRIVE trip to Anoka Tech on Dec. 8, and
    • The Kids In Need inventory assistance on Dec. 16 from 10:00-3:00.
  • Kristen Stuenkel presented several thank-yous for the Dictionary Project received from Valley View Elementary School in Columbia Heights.
