PROGRAM:
 
18 members heard visiting Rotarian Don Martin of Arden Hills-Shoreview Rotary describe its Global Grant project to assist a collaborative program proving hearing services, in Liberia, Africa.
 
Norma Jean Falink was recognized for her contributions to The Rotary Foundation’s Policy Plus campaign by presentation of a pin furnished by TRF’s Polio Plus Society.
 
Outgoing club president Stephen Keeler remarks at his final meeting as president included thank-yous to several of this year’s officers and next year’s club leadership, mention of the club’s literacy and district grant projects, and his personal enjoyment of his presidential year. He exhorted the club to continue its pursuit of excellence as members of Rotary.

The June 13 Rotary Fun Run at Fridley 49er Days attracted 62 runners, a large increase on the 30 or so in 2023, thanks to a strong recruitment campaign employing local partners. Automatic timing and online signup simplified the operation. Thanks to organizer Bob Olsen and assisting members Paul Nealy and Bob Tholkes.
 
Soggy but undaunted, the Rotary Wine Tent at Fridley 49er Days on Saturday, June 15, opened from 2:00 p.m. until steady rain forced an early conclusion at 6:00 p.m. Thanks to members Gordon Backlund, Norma Jean Falink, Erik Johnston, Paul Nealy, organizer Bob Olsen, and Bob Tholkes.
 
This half-year’s contribution to be sent to TRF from Dick Harris’s handsome fine box for the Polio Plus campaign was an outstanding $659.00. Thanks to all our ‘fine’ members!
 
The next club board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7. All members are welcome.

The 11th annual Golf Classic, the primary club fundraiser, is set for Monday, July 15, at the Refuge Golf Course in Oak Grove. Volunteers are needed to participate. Contact Greg Schraufnagel at 612-242-4748 to sign up.
 
The Operation Pollination committee plans to participate in the Columbia Heights Monarch Festival on Thursday, August 8.
 
The annual Charter Dinner will take place on Wednesday evening, November 6, at Banquets of Minnesota, 6310 Hwy 65, Fridley.
 
Rotary International announced that the 2029 RI convention will be held in Minneapolis. It will be organized cooperatively by Districts 5580/5950,5960, and 6250.
