17 members and guests Patrick Miller of Miller Construction Co. of Fridley and prospective member Emery Oakley of Andover heard new member Kevin Kaliher of RAO Mfg. of Fridley present a delightful, informative classification talk on his family, personal background, career, and interests.

Thanks to member Kristen Stuenkel and Columbia Heights community gardener/member spouse Mary Tholkes for assisting at the garden prep service activity offered last Monday at Columbia Heights High School’s new Blooming Heights pollinator garden, which it turned out was a thorny (Canadian thistle) operation.
The Rotary District 5960 “Shark Tank” district grant project review session on May 8, at which Stephen Keeler and Stuenkel presented the club’s 2024-25 proposal, resulted in a grant of $3,750.00 towards the project’s fundraising from the four “sharks”’s Rotary clubs. That amount will be matched by the district.
Bob Olsen provided information on our June activities during Fridley’s 49er Days celebration: the Thursday, June 13 Rotary Fun Run and the Saturday, June 15, wine tent.
Steve Klaers thanked Will Rottler for presiding at the Columbia Heights STRIVE scholarship presentations last week, and reminded that Fridley’s presentations take place tomorrow evening, May 16.
Social Committee Scott Lund announced that the annual Charter Dinner will take place on Wednesday, November 6, at a site to be selected.
REMINDERS
Volunteers to participate in three planned club activities: the 2024-25 district grant proposal, ‘English Instruction for New Immigrants’, for funding of additional classroom instruction for new immigrants through the Adult Learning Center in Columbia Heights; the July 15 Golf Classic fundraiser; and the annual Rotary Fun Run at Fridley’s 49er Days town festival will be sought shortly. The annual Rotary Fun Run at Fridley’s 49er Days town festival takes place on Thursday, June 13, and the Rotary Wine Tent will open from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15.
Installation of the 2024-25 District Governor, Ed Boeve of Stillwater Sunrise Rotary, will take place on
Saturday, June 29, at 5:00 p.m. at Rustic Roots Winery in Scandia. Register at

The 11th annual Golf Classic, the primary club fundraiser, is set for Monday, July 15, at the Refuge Golf Course in Oak Grove.
The Operation Pollination committee plans to participate in the Columbia Heights Monarch Festival on Thursday, August 8.
Rotary International announced that the 2029 RI convention will be held in Minneapolis. It will be organized cooperatively by Districts 5580/5950,5960, and 6250.
