PROGRAM

14 members, including 3 on Zoom, and prospective member Amy Pyess heard Jim Casserly of Bloomington Rotary provide a description of the charitable activities of the Rotario Puerto Vallarta Sur club of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which Casserly attends during his winter sojourn in the city. The Mexican club operates several programs for disadvantaged children (Children of the Dump”): after-school programs to teach English and computer literacy (for which it acquires laptops); providing scholarships (the BECAS program) for students to attend years 7 through university, which are not funded by the government; a sewing school; and for disadvantaged families, a water-filter distribution program. The FCH club board will consider a donation to the Mexican club’s projects at its June 1 meeting.
