PROGRAM
 
22 members (including 4 on Zoom), visiting Rotarians Sandy Campbell of Anoka Rotary and Mike Neeley (on Zoom) of New Brighton-Moundsview Rotary) and guest Juliana Paez heard Pam Powell, director of the non-profit Mom’s Haven of Hope describe the group’s mission of providing housing and other services for single moms at risk. The organization is fundraising toward a shelter to be built in Fridley.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Steve Klaers provided an update of the planning for mentoring of the club’s STRIVE scholarship students.
 
Amada Simula and Kristen Stuenkel thanked the club for its participation in the successful Monarch Festival in Columbia Heights last week.
 
President Kim Hiel noted the plan to complete a visioning process for the club during her presidential year. The club last engaged in the process in 2015-16.
 
Campbell, a District 5960 Assistant Governor, reminded the club of the district’s new Passport program encouraging members to attend meetings of other clubs in the district and provided information on a leadership conference planned by her club.
 
Treasurer Greg Schraufnagel announced that Southern Anoka Community Assistance will receive a check from the club for $1000.00 for the club’s sponsorship of SACA’s food delivery truck. The donation includes inclusion of the club’s signage on the food truck for a period of three years.
 
REMINDERS
 
Columbia Heights Public School invites FCH Rotary members to attend the annual “Scaling the Heights” new staff orientation today, August 24, from 9:15-9:45 a.m.at Hylander Center. Contact FCH Rotary Secretary Bob Tholkes at fridleychrotary.org if you expect to attend.

The F-CH Operation Pollination Committee plans to host a service event for our Rotary Club on Saturday, Sept 10 9-11 a.m. at Blooming Sunshine Garden, Lomianki Park, Columbia Heights. The F-CH Rotary Club is providing up to $200 for pollinator plants and the service activity will be to place those plants into the designated area of the Blooming Sunshine Garden. There will also be time socializing amongst Rotarians. All are welcome!

All members in Rotary District 5960 are invited to attend an All Club Luncheon at which 2023-24 Rotary International President Gordon McInally and Rotary Foundation Trustee Greg Podd will speak in person. The annual Charter Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, at Banquets of Minnesota in Fridley, and will feature Rotary District 5960 Governor Dayna Quigley.
