PROGRAM
18 members, including 3 on Zoom, prospective member Brad Gudim, and former member Earl Hendricks heard Anoka County Extension Master Gardener Program coordinator Lia Spaniolo and Fridley Master Gardener Sue Sherek speak about the Extension Master Gardener program. Lia gave an overview: a University of Minnesota Extension program, every county has an extension service, and most have a Master Gardener program. Lia reviewed its mission and priorities, the duties and requirements of the volunteer Master Gardeners (there are presently over 2,500 in the county and about 130 in Columbia Heights and Fridley), and the benefits of the program. Her presentation can be viewed at file:///C:/Users/rjtho/Downloads/Rotary%20Club%20Meeting%20Presentation.pdf.
Sue described the program’s emphases in our service area: they focus on growing food and gardening basics rather than traditional horticulture.
