19 members (including 1 on Zoom), visiting Rotarian (and Assistant Governor) Julie Gotham of Blaine – Ham Lake Rotary heard Chief Eric Werner of the non-profit Minnesota Chiefs of Police Foundation (and Maple Grove, MN Rotarian) describe the group’s mission to “advance high-quality, effective policing and strengthen police-community relations in Minnesota through training, outreach, grants, and scholarships.” He noted the present severe difficulty in recruiting and retaining sworn officers. President Kim Hiel presented him with a check for $500.00 to assist the Foundation’s work.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
President-Elect Stephen Keeler in his Rotary Minute encouraged participation in the upcoming member survey which will begin the plan to complete a visioning process for the club.
Gotham urged participation in the District 5960 Passport program to encourage District 5960 to attend meetings at other club in the district, promoted the upcoming (February 2023) mission trip to Guatemala, and offered tickets for her club’s Bikes4Kids raffle fundraiser to be held on September 17.
REMINDERS
The F-CH Operation Pollination Committee plans to host a service event for our Rotary Club on Saturday, Sept 10 9-11 a.m. at
Blooming Sunshine Garden, Lomianki Park, Columbia Heights. The F-CH Rotary Club is providing up to $200 for pollinator plants and the service activity will be to place those plants into the designated area of the Blooming Sunshine Garden. There will also be time socializing amongst Rotarians. All are welcome!
The annual Charter Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, at Banquets of Minnesota in Fridley, and will feature Rotary District 5960 Governor Dayna Quigley.
