PROGRAM
 
21 members, including 5 on Zoom, prospective member Brad Gudim, and former-member guest Earl Hendricks heard Jeff Cacek, principal at North Park School for Innovation, an elementary school in Fridley and part of the Columbia Heights school district, describe the school’s new “green” curriculum and facility, for which it received Green Ribbon School status from the federal government in 2018. The school’s recent renovations reinforced its innovative new educational orientation.
 
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
The Columbia Heights Public Schools invites us to attend “Scaling The Heights”, a Meet and Greet with its new teaching staff, on Wednesday, August 25, from 9:15-9:45 a.m. in the Hylander Center. Tables will be set up for various community partners and our new staff will be invited to visit and speak with each table.
 
Golf Classic coordinator Greg Schraufnagel announced that the fundraiser netted $15,108 for the club and $4,250 for the club’s scholarship entity, the Healthy Youth Foundation. Southern Anoka Community Assistance (SACA) will receive $10,000.00 from the proceeds immediately and a further $5000.00 at a later point in the 2021-22 fiscal year.
 
Amada Simula promoted the “Flight of the Monarchs” documentary presentation next Wednesday evening at 6:30 at Huset Park in Columbia Heights. The showing is part of the Operation Pollinator project endorsed by the club, and the club will staff an informational table at the event. Members are urged to attend. The club provided $500.00 towards the cost of the event.
 
REMINDERS
 
Members may sign up to deliver groceries for SACA on any Saturday. If you will be driving, provide your insurance card and driver’s license for SACA to copy for its records. Volunteer at https://sacafoodshelf.org/volunteer.
 
With the loosening of COVID restrictions other service projects can be planned. Please contact Service project coordinator Mark Grotewold with your ideas.
 
The annual charter dinner takes place on Wednesday evening, August 25 at Banquets of Minnesota in Fridley. Cost is $32 per person for the meal and facility rental.
