UPCOMING PROGRAMS: Aug. 21- Mike Miner & Steve Kalina promote the future of manufacturing in Minnesota. Aug. 28- meet at RAO Manufacturing, 200 Mississippi St. NE, Fridley for breakfast, a presentation and tour. Sep. 4- Cybersecurity expert Rich Coleman presents on the features and challenges of that vital industry.
 
PROGRAM
 
18 members participated in a tour led by member Capt. Erik Johnston of the Columbia Heights Police Department facility, and saw demonstrations of some of its most recently-added equipment: drones, tasers, and bolo wraps.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Members Bob Olsen and his trained (?) monarchs, Kristen Stuenkel, and Bob Tholkes represented the club at the popular bilingual Mayors’ Monarch Festival in Columbia Heights on Thursday August 8.
 
The club board held its initial 2024-25 meeting today after the tour. Club members accepting new responsibilities are Treasurer Stephen Keeler, Paul Nealy (President Elect, Fall Literacy Project, and Healthy Youth Foundation Treasurer), Josh Callahan (Healthy Youth Foundation board member), and Amáda Márquez Simula (District Award submissions).
 
REMINDERS
 
Columbia Heights Public Schools invites members to meet its new teaching staff at its annual meet & greet from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, at the high school, 1400 49th Avenue NE.

Due to the transition in the club treasurer position from Greg Schraufnagel (thanks for your service, Greg!) To Stephen Keeler and Greg’s duties as coordinator of the upcoming Golf Classic, invoices for the billing quarter ending June 30 were not issued…to catch up, a second invoice (the first was issued last week) will be forthcoming during the new quarter which ends September 30.
 
The next club board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2, at 9 a.m. at Fridley Community Center, 6058 7 St NE. All members are welcome.
 
The annual Charter Dinner will take place on Wednesday evening, November 6, at Banquets of Minnesota, 6310 Hwy 65, Fridley. Doors open at 5:30. District ,5960 District Governor Ed Boeve will be on hand.
 
Rotary International announced that the 2029 RI convention will be held in Minneapolis. It will be organized cooperatively by Districts 5580/5950,5960, and 6250.
