PROGRAM
 
16 members, including 2 on Zoom, and prospective member Amy Paez of Coon Rapids heard (via Zoom) Citizens League of Minnesota Executive Director Kate Cimino explain the mission and operations of the League, a non-partisan, non-profit Minnesota public policy research center, and in particular the Capitol Pathways program, which provides internships at the state capitol for local students of color.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Bob Olsen announced that in addition to the Fun Run at Fridley 49er Days on June 16, the club will resume sponsorship of a Wine Tent at the event, on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18. Volunteers are needed for both events, which are a significant portion of the club’s annual community outreach effort. Four sponsors (of six needed) have been found for the Fun Run.

Stuenkel, Communications Director for Columbia Heights Public Schools, also forwards the following: Thank you to Fridley-Columbia Heights Rotary for the generous support of CHHS STRIVE students. The STRIVE scholarships were given to our students last Wednesday evening by F-CH Rotarian (and CHHS Alum) Mark Grotewold. The STRIVE scholarships and other local scholarships combined to provide over $272,000 in funding for post-secondary education for CHHS students.
 
Golf Classic: Greg Schraufnagel announced that at present 12 (!) golfers have registered. The usual goal is 100, and 80 registered in 2021. Wally Wysopal announced that 8 individuals have signed up to provide baskets for the online silent auction.

The scholarship presentation assembly at Fridley High School is scheduled for tomorrow evening, Thursday, May 19. Members are invited to attend the assemblies, at which STRIVE awards are presented. Steve Klaers and Josh Callahan will present the STRIVE scholarship awards. Contact Klaers at 612-599-8103 for information.
 
There is no breakfast meeting at Shortstop Bar & Grill next week, May 25. The first lunch meeting at the Refuge Golf Club, 21250 Yellow Pine St NW, Oak Grove, MN, the site of the July Golf Classic fundraiser, will take place instead. Complementary lunches and golf will be provided for invited prospective members. Members are requested to help identify prospective members to invite, particularly owners of local businesses. President Don Archibeque circulated an email list on May 6. Members who choose to golf after the meeting can do so at a discounted rate of $45.00. The meeting will begin at 11:30. The meeting will be hybrid. Lunch meetings at The Refuge are also scheduled for June 29, July 27, and August 24.
 
Speaker on May 25: member Gordon Backlund will provide a description of the State of Minnesota legislative process.
