20 members, including two on Zoom, heard Mary Anne Rishebarger (also on Zoom) of the Monarch Sister Schools Program describe the program’s process and growth, and discuss the famous insect’s remarkable annual migration and 3-stage (egg, caterpillar, chrysalis) life cycle.
ANNOUNCEMENTS President Kim Hiel awarded longtime member Fred Bischke his Rotary Foundation Three Rubies Paul Harris Award pin. The Three Rubies pin indicates donations to the Foundation totaling at least $9,000.00! Congrats (and thanks) Fred.
Hiel and Gordon Backlund inducted new member Richard Garcia.
Members Bob Olsen, Kristen Stuenkel, and Bob Tholkes staffed an informational table at the Columbia Heights Monarch Festival on Wednesday evening, with Bob O.’s exhibit of monarchs, chrysalises, caterpillars, and eggs attracting a lot of attention.
REMINDERS Response not having been as hoped, the monthly lunch meeting planned for August 24 at The Refuge will revert to breakfast at Shortstop. Thanks to those who participated in the lunches on May 25 and June 29.
Columbia Heights Public School invites FCH Rotary members to attend the annual “Scaling the Heights” new staff orientation on Wednesday, August 24, from 9:15-9:45 a.m.at Hylander Center. Contact FCH Rotary Secretary Bob Tholkes at fridleychrotary.org if you expect to attend.
The annual Charter Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, at Banquets of Minnesota in Fridley, and will feature Rotary District 5960 Governor Dayna Quigley.
