19 members, including 3 on Zoom, regular visiting Rotarian Mike Neeley of Mounds View-New Brighton Rotary (also on Zoom), and guest Hunter Sonnek of Fridley heard new member Amy Paez (properly pronounced “Pie-ezz”) deliver her classification talk, concerning her background (born & raised in Fridley), family, education, and career as a self-employed Medicare insurance broker. She is among the fortunate few who has found a vocation—serving Medicare enrollees—to which she can devote herself passionately!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Pollination Committee met on Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 7:30 a.m. on Zoom. Attending were members Bob Olsen, Amada Marquez Simula, Kristen Stuenkel, and Bob Tholkes; Wes Nujteren of the Blooming Heights program at Columbia Heights High School; and Adam Flett of the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization. The meeting discussed final plans for the Columbia Heights Monarch Festival, which takes place on Wednesday, August 17, from 5-8 p.m. at Sullivan Lake Park. The club will have an informational table and will receive sponsor recognition. Member Bob Olsen will bring his monarchs (caterpillars and hopefully a butterfly or two) to exhibit.
Pollination Committee Coordinator Kristen Stuenkel distributed Monarch Festival flyers.
Steve Klaers announced that the STRIVE mentor program will as hoped be extended to Columbia Heights as well as Fridley STRIVE students.
Secretary Bob Tholkes noted that Rotary fall quarter account invoices have been emailed by treasurer Greg Schraufnagel.
On behalf of Service Project coordinator Mark Grotewold, Stuenkel announced that the club is invited to plant perennials at Lomianki Pakr in Columbia Heights on Saturday, September 10. Details TBA.
Social Committee Scott Lund reminded members to put the November 2 Charter Dinner on their calendars.
REMINDERS Response not having been as hoped, the monthly lunch meeting planned for August 24 at The Refuge will revert to breakfast at Shortstop. Thanks to those who participated in the lunches on May 25 and June 29.
Columbia Heights Public Schools invites FCH Rotary members to attend the annual “Scaling the Heights” new staff orientation on Wednesday, August 24, from 9:15-9:45 a.m.at Hylander Center. Contact FCH Rotary Secretary Bob Tholkes at fridleychrotary.org if you expect to attend.
The annual Charter Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, at Banquets of Minnesota in Fridley, and will feature Rotary District 5960 Governor Dayna Quigley.
