PROGRAM
 
Unexpectedly, no meeting. Shortstop notified the club yesterday afternoon that it could not host due to a lack of staff. We have learned today that the lack of staff was temporary, and that no further cancellations are anticipated. Thanks to our liaison with Shortstop, Brian Weierke, for following up. Shortstop will also pursue the resolution of the problem with accessing the restaurant’s wifi system for use at our hybrid meetings.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
The club board met today as scheduled at 9 a.m. at Fridley City Hall. Actions:
 
               Approval of the membership of Brad Gudim of Fridley. He will be inducted at the next in-person opportunity.
 
               Approval of a donation of $500.00 to Elk River Rotary in support of its fundraising for purchase of a transporter for veterans at the Magnus Veterans’ Foundation. Former member Casey Mahon presented on the project last month.
 
               Approval of purchase of a tribute to be sent for the service next month for Henry Smith, spouse of member Norma Jean Falink.
 
               Approval of a donation of $200.00 to the City of Columbia Heights’ “Truck or Treat” family event on October 30 for a face-painter.   
 
               Set as policy that a virtual meeting will be held when, as occurred today, a scheduled hybrid meeting cannot be provided.
 
REMINDERS
 
Members may sign up to deliver groceries for SACA on any Saturday. If you will be driving, provide your insurance card and driver’s license for SACA to copy for its records. Volunteer at https://sacafoodshelf.org/volunteer.
 
With the loosening of COVID restrictions other service projects can be planned. Please contact Service project coordinator Mark Grotewold with your ideas.
 
The club is scheduled again to provide bellringing support for the Salvation Army, for 4-hour shifts from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1; Wednesday, Dec. 8; and Wednesday, Dec. 15 at Sam’s Club in Fridley. Please plan on volunteering for at least one 2-hour shift. Contact Gordy Backlund either in person or at 763-574-0369 to schedule.
 
A musical service celebrating the long life and career in music of Henry Smith, spouse of member Norma Jean Falink, is scheduled (COVID permitting) for Monday, November 22, at Colonial Church of Edina, at 2 p.m.
 
Speaker on October 13: member Vern Hoium initiates a series of “classification talks” designed to acquaint more recent members with our longtimers. Vern will have the challenge of capsulizing his 80+ years in the usual timed program slot, and before he leaves promptly at 8:30.
