PROGRAM After not meeting on November 23 due to the Thanksgiving holiday, 18 members and guest Abby Kosberg, director of North Suburban Center for the Arts in Fridley, heard Joe McKenzie, director of Cars for Neighbors of Anoka County, describe its activites. McKenzie is also president-elect of Coon Rapids Rotary. Cars for Neighbors has for 20 years arranged repairs of car safety and emission items for Anoka County residents not able to afford those services. Availability of a personal vehicle is important for steady employment in Anoka County, where public transport is not comprehensively available.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Amada Marquez Simula and Kristen Stuenkel thanked the club for providing a letter of support for the HeightsNEXT Community Foundation’s application for a Mississippi Watershed Management Organization grant in support of the foundation’s development of the pollinator site at Lomianki Park.
 
The lunch scheduled for today with the Fridley High School STRIVE student has been cancelled. Gordon Backlund reminded volunteers for bellringing (see below) to dress appropriately.
 
The club board meets on Wednesday, December 7 after the breakfast, at the Fridley Community Center, 6085 61st Avenue North. All members are welcome.
 
No breakfast will be held on Wednesday, December 28 due to the holidays.

A Lunch with the Fridley STRIVE students is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. at the high school on Tuesday, Dec. 13.  Additional mentors for the STRIVE students are sought. Contact Steve Klaers at 612-599-8103.
 
The club’s annual bellringing during the holiday season will again take place at Sam’s Club, 8150 University Avenue NE in Fridley, from 3-7 p.m. on the three Wednesdays in December before Christmas, December 7, 14, and 21. A sign-up sheet for 2 hour time blocks will be circulated. Contact Gordon Backlund at 612-296-0375 to participate.

Save The Date: the annual district 5960 conference is scheduled for April 29, 2023, a joint conference with District 5950 at Madden’s Golf Resort on Gull Lake in Brainerd.
 
Speaker on December 7: Member Kristen Stuenkel recounts the near-forgotten history of the Ku Klux Klan in Minnesota in th 1920s, including her forebears’ possible involvement.
