17 members, STRIVE coordinators Scott Roehm of Columbia Heights and Jim Cummings of Fridley, and SRIVE students Luisa Rodriguez and Wendy Tocachi of Columbia Heights heard District 5960 Polio Plus chair Charlie Cogan of Northfield Rotary recount the program's origins and remarkable progress.

President Josh Lund awarded Norma Jean Falink her 7th Paul Harris Fellow pin.
 
Steve Klaers briefly reviewed the information sent recently to the club about the STRIVE mentoring program, and noted that 14 STRIVE students from Columbia Heights and Fridley assisted at the Kids In Need inventory on Saturday.
 
The club will provide bellringing services for the Salvation Army today at Sam's Club in Fridley. Volunteers are needed- see Wally Wysopal.
 
No meeting next week or on Jan. 2.
 
John Marg-Patton, Co-President of the New Brighton-Mounds View club, passed away Sunday due to small-cell lung cancer. Please keep John and his family, friends and club in your thoughts and prayers. His memorial service will be December 28, 2 PM, Christ the King Lutheran Church, New Brighton. The club is sending a sympathy card, which members were invited to sign at today's breakfast.
 
District 5960 will hold a free Midterm event on Jan. 12 at Anderson Hall, Hamline University from 8:30 – 3:00 pm.  Register online at the District 5960 website. Lunch provided.
 
The Suits & Hearts Benefit Gala is scheduled for January 19. See suitsandhearts.org for tickets and information.
 
Donations are sought for the Metro North Adult Basic Ed winter clothing distribution program in our service area. They will be accepted all through the winter. They can be brought to the breakfast and  given to Kristin Stuenkel.
 
Scott Lund announced that the Fridley Lions' "Winter Warmup" will take place on Feb. 22 at Banquets of Minnesota in Fridley. See Scott for advance, discounted tickets. The Lions recently donated a $5000 sponsorship for the End Polio Now gala on January 19. 
 
The Lee Carlson Center Chili Cookoff and Beer Tasting will take place on March 1 under a new format in Brooklyn Center, reflecting the Center's expansion to that Hennepin County community. More information to come.
 
“Taste of Fridley”, a fundraiser for the spring Fridley Middle School East Coast Trip, will be held on Friday, March 8, from 6 to 9 pm at Banquets of Minnesota in Fridley.
 
The Alexandra House Hope Gala will take place on March 24. The club board will debate participation at its January meeting
 
The club has a table for 8 at the Fridley Schools Foundation Black & Gold Gala on March 28 at Jax Café. See Secretary Tholkes about reserving a place. Three places remain.
