15 members, prospective member Jonathan St. Germain of Columbia Heights, and guest Cory Richter of the City of Blaine attended a breakfast that turned into a club assembly, as scheduled speaker Wayne Feller, director of the Star of the North Concert Band, contracted the flu and was unable to attend.
 
The club assembly chiefly concerned ideas for future service events, led by coordinator Mark Grotewold and Gordon Backlund. Grotewold asked that members forward suggestions to his email, markandlizgrotewold@edinarealty.com.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Amada Simula announced that the Columbia Heights Lions Club will host its annual Fire and Ice Plunge at Silver Lake Beach, 4305 NE Stinson Blvd., from noon to 3:00 on Saturday, January 25. Cost is $40 to jump,. Proceeds benefit the Columbia Heights fire Dept.; food and beverages sold.
 
Craig Malm announced that the Bikes for Kids bike giveaway will take place on Saturday, April 25 at Stevenson Elementary School, 6080 E. River Road in Fridley.
 
2020-21 District Governor Ed Marek of the St. Paul Sunrise Club will be installed on Tuesday evening, June 23 at the Wilder Foundation, 451 Lexington Pkwy, St. Paul.

STRIVE’s next field trip, to Hennepin Tech and Anoka Ramsey Community College is set for Friday, Jan. 31. Rotarians are welcome to accompany the students and their faculty advisers and mentors. Contact Steve Klaers at 612-599-8103 for details.
 
The next club board meeting is scheduled for February 12 at 9:00 a.m. at Fridley City Hall.
 
Columbia Heights Lions will host a professional ‘rasslin event at Murzyn Hall, 530 Mill St., Columbia Heights, on February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. Proceeds donated to Columbia Heights Fire Dept. Admission is $10. Cash bar.
 
The District 5960 2020 Conference of Clubs will take place April 30-May 1 at the Mystic Lake Event Center, Prior Lake. Early-bird registration on the District 5960 website closes on March 15.
 
The board approved the purchase of a table for 10 at the Alexandra House Gala, to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on March 28 at Leopold’s Mississippi Gardens, 9500 W River Rd, Minneapolis, MN 55444. The District 5960 Rotary Foundation Grants Management Seminars take place in Stillwater on Saturday, April 4, and in Rochester on Thursday, April 14. Our club needs at least one member to attend in order to pursue a district or global grant in 2020-21. See Bob Tholkes or Roy Goslin if you are interested.
 
Golf Classic coordinator Greg Schraufnagel announced that the 2020 Classic is scheduled for Monday, July 20, at The Refuge Golf Club in Oak Grove, last year’s site.
