22 members and former member Dick Harris heard new member Kim Hiel, rising superintendent of Fridley Public Schools, give an enjoyable and skillfully-presented Classification Talk.
 
Secretary Bob Tholkes congratulated Wally Wysopal and Gordy Backlund on their Perfect Attendance achievement in 2017-18. Bob also had that distinction.
 
Social Committee chair Scott Lund raised a number of alternatives for a fall social event, and requested responses ASAP.
 
Follow-ups from the board meeting of August 8: Tholkes announced that he and fellow board member Kelli Bourgeois would meet with representatives of HeightsNEXT Community Foundation about a financial partnership for 2018-19. Wally Wysopal announced that the club will participate in Rotary Camp Enterprise, a business-training experience for high school Juniors and seniors. One student from each high school in our service area will be sought. President Lund announced that the club will donate up to $500 to Metro North Pediatrics. 
 
Bob Olsen announced the resumption of a club golf competition (last held in 2010) and invited participation. 
 
Craig Malm is seeking used bikes in good condition for the next giveaway to students in our service area.
 
Kelli Bourgeois is seeking volunteers to staff a Rotary table at an event at the Columbia Heights Library on the forenoon of August 22.
