19 Members and former member Dick Harris attended the breakfast of October 3. Guests were Steve Drost, a prospective member, resident of Fridley, and a financial planner at Affiance Financial of St. Louis Park; Jim Cummings, STRIVE coordinator at Fridley High School; and Michael Dowdy, a senior at FHS who will attend Rotary Camp Enterprise this fall through the club's sponsorship. President-Elect Brian Weierke, Fridley Public Safety Director, presented an update on the department, describing its strategy and organization, recent crime statistics, community involvement efforts, and present initiatives.
 
President Josh Lund reminded of the benefit at Rte 47 Grill in Fridley at 5:00 p.m. Oct. 4 to raise funds for Fridley Middle School students to attend the TRIP to Washington D.C. featuring local rock sensation Jeff Loven.
 
Lund also reminded of the club board meeting at Fridley City Hall following the breakfast, and of the 5:01 social that will replace the breakfast on Oct. 17, also at Rte 47.
 
Tim Blank reminded of the dictionary distribution this morning in Columbia Heights, and lined up a few additional volunteers.
 
Patti Halvorsen reminded of the Lee Carlson Center Lantern Gala at Bunker Hills Golf Club from 5:30-8:00 p.m. on Nov. 8.
 
Lund also reminded that District 5960 Governor Mike Becker of Rochester will visit and present next week, Oct. 10.
 
Vern Hoium passed around a sign-up sheet for the club's table at the Columbia Heights Public Schools Foundation's banquet at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Jax Cafe. Ten can attend on the club's dime.
 
Second Quarter account invoices will be emailed shortly by Treasurer Scott Bardell.
