14 members and Mrs. Oakley, mother of member Mike Oakley and grandmother of baby Oakley (also present) met at Fridley Commons Park and heard Fridley Parks and Recreation Director Mark Maher describe the city’s parks improvement program in general and the new Fridley Commons Park in particular. A tour of the grounds followed.

The present dearth of scheduled service activities will be relieved by food distribution aid at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 755 73rd Ave NE, Fridley, on Friday, September 11, from 4-8 pm. Signup sheet will be passed again next week.
Another previous activity, garden clean up at Columbia Heights High School, is planned for 3:15 – 4:30 pm on Monday, October 26, at the school, 1400 49 Ave NE. Signup sheet next month.
The Operation Pollination group met at 7:30 a.m. on Tue, Sep. 1 with former member Amáda Marquez Simula, Melissa Trent, Ag Coordinator at Columbia High School, and Michelle Spangler of the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization joining Kristen Stuenkel and Bob Tholkes. Spangler shared MWMO’s upcoming photo exhibit , programs, and workshops. Trent noted the fall garden cleanup scheduled for Oct. 26 when adult volunteers would be welcome. Márquez Simula reported attendance of about 300 at the August Monarch Festival despite limited publicity, and positive comments on the program.

Rotary International announced that the
May 27-28, 2028 RI convention will be held in Minneapolis. It will be organized cooperatively by Districts 5580, 5950, 5960, and 6250. If you already know that you will want to volunteer at the Rotary International Convention in Minneapolis in 2028, send your name, email and club name to
ri2028volunteer@gmail.com. At a minimum, the people-watching should be amazing! Convention registration not required. The convention has exceeded its immediate goal of 1000 Rotarians registered as interested in volunteering; that goal has morphed to 1600 volunteers.
